As the supply of n95 and surgical masks runs out, fabric masks have been requested by healthcare professionals. Fabric masks are washable, but not as effective as n95 or surgical masks but are better than nothing, and ideally should be worn over those masks so that the protective mask underneath remains disinfected and can be reused, while all the germs and particles dirty the fabric mask. Fabric masks should be washed with soap and water with every use.
